Somewhat Winter

It leaves behind nature’s complexities
And slows life to only the essential
The air suspending the minimum necessities
As if Winter is prudential

The atoms spin less fervently
The air vacated of sound and scent
The world moving less urgently
Simple warmth brings content

Frigid air blows a red-tailed hawk
And rattles branches of sticks together
Brown leaves crackle and crunch as I walk
While my ears and cheeks get redder

A hint of snow in the air whispers through my nose
While the palm tells my eyes it’s not true
Memories of places where the waters froze
Bring back a white covered view
